Crockpot Roasted Garlic Rosemary Bread

Crockpot Roasted Garlic Rosemary Bread – Just before going vegan we invested in a  slow cooker, so now I needed to find a use for it and seeing as pasta is so simple to make, I thought how hard could bread be?

I don’t do anything simple or half-hearted; so being my first time making bread I set my ambitions high; incorporating fresh rosemary, caramelised garlic AND cooking it in the slow cooker …. It turned out AHHHH.MAZ.ING.

Crockpot Roasted Garlic Rosemary Bread

Ingredients

  • 2 full heads of garlic
  • 3 cups warm water
  • 1 TBSP instant yeast
  • 6 + .5 cups bread flour (or just plain white flour)
  • 1 TBSP sea salt
  • 1 TBSP garlic granules (I use Kirklands – it’s literally just dried garlic)
  • ~3 big sprigs of fresh rosemary finely minced (add more to preference, it’d be hard to overdo!)

Directions

  1. Wrap your garlic heads and bake between 180-200*C for about 30+ minutes.
  2. In a small bowl add the yeast to warm water, stir and allow to sit for 10 minutes.
  3. In a seperate bowl combine flour (reserve .5 cup), salt, rosemary and garlic granules.
  4. Squeeze out garlic from skins, chop and add to yeast mixture. Stir.
  5. Add the yeast mixture to your flour mixture. mix until no dry flour remains, adding the extra 1/2 cup if it is still too sticky.
  6. Cover bowl and allow to rise for atleast 1 hour, in a warm location (I placed it in the oven that was still cooling down from roasting the garlic).
  7. Line your slow cooker with parchment paper and lightly oil the sides of the bowl.
  8. Place your risen dough in the slow cooker and cook on high for 2 hours (this could vary depending on the size of your cooker and power – Mine is a Cuisinart 6.5L)
  9. It is ready when firm on top and it will have evenly golden sides, allow to cool before cutting with a bread knife (unless you’re inpatient like me and want yo carbs, just beware it will be very soft inside from the heat!)
